Last song for the year!
I cannot believe things went by so fast. I cannot also believe that I managed to cover 17 songs this year. There were more I wanted to do, but stuff didn’t work out at times; hoarse voice, workload, disappearing collaborators – the usual stuff. Still, 17 songs in 12 months is pretty good given how the year has been for me.
Finishing it off with a relatively unknown song. I used to have this album on loop at one point (2010 or so). Hearing it again now, it just made a lot more sense on so many more levels. There are at least 2-3 other songs I would have loved to cover from this album, but untitled clearly takes the cake. 🙂
Finishing off pending music, bit by bit. Can’t believe it’s been 11 months since I started this. I probably need a break from covers after the end of the year. Might try my hand at composing next year 🙂
Sung by the inimitable Sudipto, a cover that started in Kolkata and was completed in Toledo.
As Life is Strange heads to its end, I finally managed to finish covering a song I had started working on quite a few months back. It has traveled continents with it, but I’m happy it’s done, finally 🙂
This is actually the last Iron and Wine song I actually know how to play.
Also, first recording using my new Martin acoustic – doesn’t it sound gorgeous?
I deliberately kept it lo-fi, using the audio from my DSLR instead of the mic. If you have heard the original, you will know why. This version is based on one of his live performances, and is slightly different from the original thus.
The third song I really, really wanted to cover this year. The dead letters have all been sent now 🙂
I recorded this originally as a video (hence the lower fidelity) – you can listen to it here.
The last song before I leave 🙂
This song has meant different things at different times. But the memory I associate the most with it is recording a (terrible) version of it almost 3 years back, trying desperately to reach out to someone when words kept failing. Needless to say, it didn’t really work.
Since then, I have been trying to get this song out of my system, including a guitar version I did a year back that you can find here. This is it, though. This is the song I have been trying to sing :’)
I was playing this song a lot 4 years back right before I left Kolkata for Mumbai. This song is always about leaving Kolkata; even now.
I’ll miss you, halogen city.
Sudipto was here with Sandy last night and, struggling to stay awake, we managed to belt out this cover sans any practice runs. In case you do not know Sudipto, he’s the vocalist of the Kolkata based Buddha Therapy, and easily one of the most talented musicians working in rock in India at this point.
Pretty badass, everything considered. Over the last year or so I have come to realise that the first take is almost always the best. 😀
